Combine Wait Eat is now switched to Hugo. It was using a theme from like six years ago. Now it’s a static site. It’s much uglier, particularly on a phone. But it’s no longer running ancient WordPress, so I think it’s a net improvement.

After putting up the Documentation for TaskFiend, by far my most checked out code, I got curious if anybody was actually accessing it. As a Free Software Zealot™, I wasn’t about to use Google Analytics. I don’t really even want to put more than the bare minimum JavaScript (grumble grumble cookie notice), much less trakcing cookies, so I was basically looking for something to make my Apache logs pretty. Enter GoAccess.

GoAccess’ page has a big picture of it as a CLI utility, but it will render an HTML file in real time if so requested:

Both Hugo and WordPress are free software created with love and a lot of unpaid labor. My hat is off to both projects and their developers.

Hugo is a program written in Go that runs on your computer and generates a static website based on files you create. These include markdown files for content, HTML-ish files for themes, and static assets. All you need to put it out into the world is a way to serve web pages.
